Guest Blog: My experiences with babyballet

A lovely blog by one of our babyballet Mummy’s, Rachel, all about her little stars time in her babyballet classes.

| After all the postnatal issues I had I didn’t go to many baby groups whilst I was on maternity leave. Partly due to confidence and anxiety issues, and partly due to not being able to drive with the health issues I’d had.

I then returned to work and got my license back (funnily enough this was in the same week!). After a few months I decided I wanted to start going to some groups.

One group I wanted to go to was babyballet. When my daughter Zoe started to gain her personality she loved dancing to music. The class I wanted to go to was midweek and I work full time as a Nursery Manager. Luckily I have a very understanding boss and during my appraisal in the summer I mentioned this babyballet class. Now my boss knows I didn’t have the maternity leave I wanted so she agreed I could take Zoe out of nursery one morning a week to go to babyballet. The classes didn’t start again until September so I booked a 3 week taster and was looking forward to starting.

We turned up to her first lesson and was slightly nervous about turning up somewhere new for the first time. The teachers name is Miss Suzy and she is lovely, from the first lesson Zoe loved her. All the mats are joined together in the baby class, the children are encouraged to move around, jump, use instruments and generally have fun. Although Zoe was in the baby class she was walking at this point so could move around the room whilst the music was playing.

Here is Zoe enjoying her first lesson.

After two months of the baby class Zoe was moved up to the next class from 18 months – 3years

Again I was worried about how Zoe would get on with being with older children. But there was nothing to worry about, from the first lesson she loved it. The mats are split up and set in a big circle (Zoe picked her favourite spot next to Miss Suzy) she soon understand after each song she had to go back to her own mat.

After moving up lots of the children were wearing ballet outfits so I decide to buy her own ballet outfit.

I did struggle to find one small enough for her so bought it directly from babyballet.

Zoe absolutely loves babyballet and she is starting to do some basic ballet moves. She still adores Miss Suzy and likes to sit near her every week. She loves the instruments and the twinkle bears.

Now we have moved up to the ‘movers’ class as Zoe is three. Now parents are allowed to sit at the sides and watch (however Zoe and the other children sometimes like their parents helping them).

Zoe still loves sitting by Miss Suzy’s side, this class is still lots of fun, playing instruments, waving scarves and flags, singing nursery rhymes. They have started to introduce some simple ballet terminology now.

We will now stay in this class for another year until Zoe goes to school and then our baby ballet journey will be over.

I hope you enjoyed our baby ballet story so far.

**With all the lovely photos I do have to include my favourite which was taken when Zoe was still in the baby class. There was another child in the class a similar age to Zoe and they both used to like the trampoline. I had to laugh when I saw I’d took this.|
